Dimensions Festival 2012: Photos and Recap

While en route to Croatia, by way of three planes and one bus, I came across a line in the book I was reading at the time (the Best Music Writing of 2009 compilation), that read, “To write is to begin with nothing and hopefully get somewhere.”

Being fully aware that multi-day music festivals are as much of a subjective enigma as anything else in life, with as many different experiences as there are people in attendance, that line struck a cord and has been buried deep within me ever since. I had hoped from the beginning that traveling to Croatia would help me to gain a new perspective – how could it not, really? – but I didn’t realize such a simply-worded outlook could be so influential (and before I even got to my destination, no less).

This newfound insight was reaffirmed in the days following the festival as I began to digest what I had just experienced and thought about how to begin to put it into words for KAB. My goal here is simple: to start with the six scatter-brained notes and the 894 pictures I took on my iPhone, and hope to get somewhere.

KC’s Music Monday: Airplane Mode Edition

I’m jetting off (literally) to Croatia later today, but I’ve got to take three planes and one bus to get to where I’m going. Which is rather gross and perhaps a bit crazy. Needless to say, I’m going to be spending quite a bit of time in headphones.

I’m heading out to attend Dimensions Festival. The fest is put on by the people behind Outlook, which is a four-day music festival that takes place in an abandoned fort in Pula, Croatia. Outlook has existed in its current form since 2008 and this year is the premiere of its sister festival, taking place at the same location a weekend following. You can check out details of the fest and the massive line-up here.

For your listening pleasure (and perhaps for my maintaining my sanity) I’ve compiled a collection of must-have mixes for time spent in transit.

Dimensions Festival: Interview with Kozee

As you may have gathered from recent themes in my Music Mondays, I’m headed to Croatia for the debut of Dimensions Festival, which is kicking off exactly two weeks from today. You can find out full details and peep the line-up for the festival here.

After a handful of giddy chats about the fest and bass-driven music alike with Kozee, a DJ and producer based out of the Bay Area, we decided to take some time for a proper Q+A.

Kozee will be playing this year’s Dimension’s festival on the Audio Doughnuts curated stage alongside label mates Pusherman, Shox, TOYC, ADDJ’s, as well as guests Koreless, Dark Sky, George Fitzgerald, and Sei A, plus a special guest headliner and some additional surprises.

Kozee has been in the game since 2005 and is considered to be an integral part of the now burgeoning bass music scene in the States, drawing inspiration from multi-genre bass music. She’s toured the UK and Sweden, while also playing out across the US and doing her thing in San Francisco, such as recently playing a gig with fellow SF’er and former OUTPOST1 guest 5kinandbone5!

She’s also been busy as hell, to say the least, with eleven releases starting in 2009 and handful of giveaways along the way.

Needless to say, I’m very excited to catch this fellow Gemini behind the decks at Dimensions. Check out some of her sounds and hit the jump for the interview.
