OTS x OP1 x WCDB Interview: Jillionaire

The next round of monthly parties on the sly and OUTPOST1 (with support from WCDB) are nearing closer – current countdown reads at 10 and 11 days respectively – and the following interview was just too good to keep starred in my priority inbox any longer. This month’s headliner, Jillionaire, is hilarious (and of course, talented) and I can’t wait for us to host him in Albany on May 18th at Jillian’s, alongside Mix Pak’s Dre Skull and residents Party With Tina, Knomad and Looney.

Additionally, be sure to hit us with an e-mail at RSVP@KeepAlbanyBoring.com so we can add your name to the list for the RSVP-only Happy Hour to get the early advantage on our inexpensive-but-not-cheap drink specials. Happy Hour runs an hour prior to when we open the doors to the public too, so come hang out early.

Jillionaire has over fifteen years of experience and has created a unique sound which mashes indie dance and big room house with the caribbean rhythms of soca and dancehall. He has built up quite the resume that stretches an arms length including joining Major Lazer across the globe on a sold-out tour, curating the first Mad Decent showcase at Camp Bisco X, releasing his fair share of remixes and original tracks and plotting World Domination alongside the likes of Diplo.

To help you get acquainted with the man himself, we took some time to conduct this interview, which is a nice balance of funny and factual. Check it out beneath the cut!

OUTPOST1: Interview with Obey City

Brooklyn-based producer Obey City will be joining Tall Ass Matt and residents Party With Tina, Knomad and Looney this Friday for the April edition of OUTPOST1.

Quick tip: be sure to join in on our RSVP-only happy hour drink specials from 10 to 11pm Friday; just send a quick e-mail with your name to RSVP@keepalbanyboring.com to get in on the fun.

This month’s guest, Obey (pronunciation oh-bee) is definitely not a one-trick pony behind the decks and also keeps busy creating tunes, collaborating with others and maintaining Astro Nautico – the digitally-based label he founded alongside Kuhn and Paul Jones.

For his personal contributions to the world of forward-thinking bass music, he creates tracks that are soulful, emotional and mix the likes of R&B, funky, house and grime into his signature blend of club smashing tunes.

You can check out his music on SoundCloud and also scope his debut Melted Magic EP via Astro Nautico. Additionally, for those of you who missed it, Obey City was featured last night on Noise212, and his set will be added to the impressive archive including the likes of Krueger, Mess Kid, Samo Sound Boy, Sliink, Jim-E Stack and more.

Really looking forward to this month’s party and to help you become familiarized – knomad and myself teamed up to conduct the following interview.

Hit the jump and we’ll see you Friday.

OUTPOST1 Exclusive Mix + Interview: Brother Suarez

A week from today marks the next OUTPOST1! This month we’re packing a quality local bill featuring Brother Suarez, Jay Travis b2b Brad Lee, Tall Ass Matt, and as usual residents Party With Tina, Knomad and Looney.

Some updates you should know for this time around: we’ve moved to Jillian’s (which has a much, much better sound system, VIP sections with bottle service and a larger bar and dance floor), we are now 21+ and we will also feature a special RSVP only Happy Hour. For more details on how to take advantage of the Happy Hour special, check out the Facebook event.

For those of you paying uncomfortably close attention, Brother Suarez played OUTPOST1 in March exactly one year ago. He also kicked off our mix tape series, which you can still find archived on KAB. In the time that’s passed, he’s managed to balance playing out at a variety of venues throughout town with being a founder + resident at JunGALA: New Paltz’s biggest night for bass music, holding down a weekly radio show at WCDB, all while finishing things up at UAlbany.

Brother Suarez has consistently showcased immaculate skill as a DJ and considering he bought his first pair of 1200s at 15, he’s one of the genuine few who can say he honestly grew up alongside learning the art of DJing. He’s as much a tastemaker as he is versed with the talent of bringing high energy to every set.

He took the time to not only answer a few questions but also treated us to a short-n-sweet mix to kick off the weekend. Check it out and be sure to cop the DL.

OTS x OP1 Interview: DJ Sliink [+Exclusive, Free Tracks]

Winter’s entering it’s final throes, and more importantly, this month’s editions of on the sly and OUTPOST1 are almost here. This month we’re bringing DJ Sliink from New Jersey to headline our partnered parties at (le) poisson rouge and the Fuze Box, respectively.

On Thursday, Sliink will be joined with Contakt, who played OUTPOST1 over the summer (revisit the Q+A here) and resident knomad. On Friday, Sliink will join guest Tony Quattro and residents Party With Tina (who you may have seen open for Rusko this past weekend), Looney and knomad.

As per usual, we will be playing on air Friday from 6-10pm on WCDB 90.9FM for your official pre-game music.

And to introduce our headliner: As part of the Brick Bandits, which include the likes of Tim Dolla, Dirty South Joe and DJ Sega, DJ Sliink‘s records have been obliterating club sound systems through the hands of some of the most respected soundbwoys in the business. His signature blend of Jersey/Philly club, incorporating aggressive uptempo rhythms with soothing Pop and R&B samples give him extensive appeal across the pop and underground spectrum. His DJ sets run the gamut of Pop, Dubstep, Moombahton, Jersey/Philly/Baltimore Club, House and Reggae – the standard loadout for a working New York Club DJ. With upcoming releases on Hype Headz, Pelican Fly out of Brussels, and guest slots on Mad Decent Mondays, this naturally gifted talent out of Newark, NJ is an artist to watch in this emerging wave of hybrid dance music.

Mega Bonus: DJ Sliink was kind enough (and not to mention very generous) in sending us an exclusive party pack of tunes to get us through this work week. Don’t sleep on this exclusive, free download!

OTS x OP1: Interview with MYRRYRS

Greetings party people! It’s nearing that time again and this edition of on the sly and OUTPOST1 are bringing the common denominator of a producer hailing by way of Tennessee, MYRRYRS. MYRRYRS will be playing TONIGHT at (le) poisson rouge alongside Tony Goods, Kuhn and resident knomad – and FRIDAY at the Fuze Box alongside residents Looney, Party With Tina and knomad. As per usual, Friday between 6-10pm, we’ll be on air 6-10pm at WCDB 90.9fm for OUTPOST1 takeover. Woot!

MYRRYRS, of Body High, B.YRSLF and Discobelle, is an American producer raised on house, techno, and drum and bass. He has set each genre and the barriers they create, aside. Rather than drawing influence from the producers of his musical upbringing, MYRRYRS peers deep within the happenings of the late 90’s rave scene, 80’s B films, sci-fi fantasy, and cult imagery. Get a taste here.
