OUTPOSTMIX #2: Andrew White

Andrew White is a long-time friend of mine and has deep knowledge stretching back to chicago house, detroit techno, and disco 12″s. He knows his stuff, does it well, and plays a radio show before ours on Friday night, 6-8pm. I wrangled him in to do a mix for the Outpost1 series, as he is opening up the show this Friday. Man this thing kills. And in case you hadn’t heard, he’s helping us warm up Ghosts On Tape at Outpost1 this Friday.

OUTPOSTMIX #2: Andrew White by Outpost1

“I dunno what I would say about the mix maybe this: When it first appeared in France it was hailed as a masterpiece by some and ‘a work of heretical madness’ by others. In it is posited the following theory: Western society’s innate herd instinct has allowed the government, the media, and even the principles of economics to take advantage of each person’s unwillingness to be cut off from the group. What’s more, those who suffer from mental disorders may not be insane, but could be individuals in the purest sense, because they are, by nature, isolated from society.”

Scotty’s Music Monday: Outpost Relay

Yo its Mycon. I got more mixtapes to keep your soul relevant to the cosmos.

First up is my friend Cunei4m from down south, and I can’t recommend this one enough. Dark electro for the warehouse is hitting hard right now, and this mix runs the road from early Detroit (if you don’t know Clear by Cybotron you may as well be a caveman) to Untold & Jam City.

Say What?!… by Cunei4m

Next up is the triumphant return of Spankro’ and Blu Jemz as MOBRODER (seen above), exploring universal themes of tragedy and humor in the musical form of Italo Disco. If you don’t get the reference, maybe you’ll find it in the wikipedia entry for Italo Disco. Anyone who remembers life before dubstep should be familiar with the almighty Spankrock, and having him back in the game is a good omen for the state of planet Earth. Amanda Blank makes an appearance too, happy days for sure!!

BONUS LEVEL: Chrissy Murderbot’s XLR8R Podcast – it starts out with some tasty rave feelings, but the second half is just transcendent. This dude can make anyone ‘get’ Footwork. Plus, this is coming from the dude who released a mixtape once a week for a whole year, so you know its gotta be good.

Scotty’s Music Monday: Outpost Relay

Yo its Mycon. Out to the Outpost1 people, mad fun! My new jobs of hypeman and DVD selector are ill. Uncle Buck & Dune all night.

Fun stuff from last week for the seeds:
Thank god for this coming out, I’ve been waiting since last year = baltimore meets the david kennedy sound. Rod Lee never sounded so good.

Nonplus records released this one. THIS is my jam, another one I been waitin on. Dark electro is taking over fast. Alex Green is Sicko Cell?

Not a Radiohead fan but this has the hype. B-side is also floating around on Youtube, it sounds like Thom Yorke singing over a Burial break. Hater’s gonna hate but I’d love an instrumental of this. Nice one!

New Dubbel Dutch mixtape. Good look on the DJ Technics tune.

OUTPOSTMIX #1: Brother Suarez

I’m happy to be launching the Outpost Mix series today, and the debut is a good one. Every month, the week before an Outpost1 party, a new mix will be posted up for the people. The plan is to feature one of the DJ’s playing at the party that Friday. Our M.O. is to only host DJ’s we’re super-fans of at our party’s, so expect these mixtapes to be hot fire! Kicking off the series is our friend Brother Suarez.

Outpost1 by brothersuarez

I met Brother Suarez (Heady Pro) last year when we DJ’ed in that strange black theater room at SUNY together. The crowd was like all 18-year-old freshmen rave kids (apparently they still exist), and Suarez lent us needles to use after ours catastrophically both broke, damn… that was our first time meeting but I already knew well of his Jungala party’s in New Paltz, a huge inspiration to us for starting this Outpost1 monthly.

This mix is mainly a Funky ting. Suarez’ mixes usually go high-energy, which I love, but I think this one is a little more zoned-out, and I like that too. Martyn & Breach & Julio Bashmore = yes. And like every other Suarez mix I’ve listened to, expect flawlessly smooth mixing. Holler on the Suarez Soundcloud for a tracklist if you so desire.

So yeah, Suarez is DJing with us at Outpost1 this Friday @ Fuze Box! The kid kills it on the dancefloor, come show him love.

Scotty’s Music Mondays: Mixtape Re-ups

I was out of commission with the flu last week, but here’s what you may have missed in the world of club music outside Albany.

-MikeQ blew up himself and Ballroom music with this debut exclusive mix for XLR8R. Sounds like Ballroom is in the running for most blogged subgenre for 2011. I’ve been emailing back in forth with Mike trying to get him to take a train up to Albany to play at Fuze, fingers crossed.
Mix at XLR8R.

-Ghosts on Tape and Rollie Fingers, who just had MikeQ at Icee Hot in SF this weekend, did a new mix of deep, cosmic, and completely not-corny house music. Recommended. If you haven’t heard Predator Mode by Ghosts on Tapes, or really any of his remixes, treat yourself right and check them out. Trust me, you’ll be seeing more of him in the future so get familiar now ;)
GHOSTS ON TAPE AND ROLLIE FINGERS PRESENT: BUDDY HOUSE II: BUDDY HOUSE IS A FEELING by ICEEHOT

-Night Slugs takeover on Boiler Room = yes. This aired on Tuesday, at the climax of my flu, and I completely zoned out, I watched all 4 DJ’s from beginning to end. Bok Bok and Egyptrixx (check his new Album NOW!) were dope, but I really liked Girl Unit and Jam City’s sets.

Shout out to everyone who voted for us in the Metroland too! That was a fun surprise.

Scotty’s Music Monday: ONEMAN mixtape for the people!

502 Recordings boss Oneman’s mixtapes are always mixed seamlessly, and usually full of exclusive forthcoming UK tracks, something that drives Yanks like me crazy with excitement. This one is for the amazing Lucky Me collective – you’ll find loads of other treasures over there. It’s the home of Hudson Mo!, who Looney and I once met in NY..we told him that we were from a city where the Hudson and Mohawk rivers meet. He wasn’t terribly interested in that as I remember.

Scotty’s Music Monday: Some new Deep children stuff and Cunei4m fun

We’re broadcasting all our shows on UStream from now on, so the world can have fun watching us DJ. You gotta log in on Friday’s 8-10pm and get in the chat! I’ll be tweeting the link from my twitter every Friday around 8pm, @ScottyMycon. I’ll start learning DMC championship turntable tricks so its fun to watch. Below is the first one, from last Friday.

Looney dropped one of his new tracks and its pretty damn sweet! Check it out, it’s going to start a mosh pit this Friday.

Lastly I want to shout out my new buddy Cunei4m from Delaware. He’s a sick a DJ who’s had mixes featured on Turbotax, Trash Menagerie, and Bassfaced. And probably more. I am a fan of his UStreams. Follow him. Anyway I think I’ve gotten Scott (we have the same name) sold on mopeds, so hopefully he’ll be coming to Albany in the future to DJ with us and ride mopeds.
