Didn’t go to Kegs and Eggs? Me neither. But thankfully, with the highly accessible and scalable communication technique of “brocial media” (new KAB coined term) we can all experience the debauchery that was. Here is a roundup of K&E 2011 internet-ty things thanks to smart phones and stupid people.

    Instead of freaking about this outlandish behavior that has been going on since I moved up here 10 years ago- lets toss out some solutions- so far, other than shooting drunks with machine guns- which may cause more media free-for-all- (although I’d like to reserve my space on the firing squad-shhhh)… What if SUNY, the private universities here in the cap district and the local cops along with school campus police were to make this slightly more contained… May I mention Alive at 5 (which nearly devastated me when they proposed its cancellation) just needed some extra precautions and guidelines worked through to make it the success I found it to be last year…. So my thoughts… why not have the parade end up further from the college ghetto and closer towards those who should be monitoring it– campus police… We have markedly less drunken debauchery when college goers return home for the summers… it is the out of towners brought in by colleges that unite and demolish!! Place blame from whence it stems and shift responsibility for maintaining order to those responsible for the drama doers… What am I missing??

      ROUTE
      FROM Quail St and Central Ave.
      TRAVELS east, merging with Washington Ave
      TURNS at City Hall and travels east on State St.
      TURNS left at Pearl St
      REVIEWING STAND is located on North Pearl St.

      What part of the parade had has anything to do with the student ghetto? What part of the parade has anything to do with something that should start or end anywhere near either campus? Most of the kegs and eggs crowd has finished puking in their toilets and are laid out somewhere by the time the parade steps off. Is there some other parade you’re talking about?

      Events that leave the local universities looking like nothing but useless party schools should get taken over and controlled by the schools who might as well be sponsors in their passive support of the events and who might be concerned about managing to keep students coming as the money for college gets harder to come by.

      The parade and the rest of the city events don’t need to cater like everything else to college students, I know a lot of people think Albany has nothing to offer, but if the only thing we get is this crap take your college bars and go somewhere else, as another South Ender mentioned, if you live elsewhere in the city you can’t even have a house party without the police knocking on the door, heck we can’t round the corner without the police presence–and our high school is blamed for things that happen hours later and miles away from the high school, we need to hold these ADULTS at least as responsible as we hold high school kids for their behavior.

    I remember canvassing on Hamilton St last year and I remember speaking to one homeowner who felt like she was at war with these transient students who move into the area, topple property values, and hold raucous parties until all hours of the night.

    And I thought that was hyperbolic, even though those parties do get out of hand. But then you see these videos–she was right and the city hasn’t done enough for the homeowners.

    Hope they throw the book at these mouthbreathers. Especially that stupid girl that attacked a cop because he was arresting her boyfriend. What an idiot…

          most of the kids aren’t privileged, however that was insanely uncalled for. When I was there we got drunk (#1 party school my jr yr) and had tons of fun, but never at the expense of other people’s property.

    as a SUNY student who has participated in this for the last couple years, I can honestly say this year and these videos are the most ridiculous collection of idiotic behavior and disgustingly disappointing events. Its kids like the ones on the videos destroying other people’s cars and property that ruin what is supposed to be a reckless and fun college holiday for all the years to come. It only takes one year of this kind of behavior for the police to destroy all future potential Kegs and Eggs has. Way to go jackasses.

    As a senior @ St. Rose I must say this is my 2nd Kegs nd Eggs event and it was insane. These videos only do half justice, I was in the crowd during the riot, nd car flipping, nd attempted assault on one of the officers. Being that I’m from Los Angeles, I’ve only seen similar behavior in college students during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Honestly we shouldn’t behave in such a manner, but at the same time, police allowed a lot of this to happen. Blocking off only 2 streets and allowing all of this to happen what did you expect…ALL I’M GOINA SAY IS THAT I HAD A BLAST

    THis is spoke obviously from a young punk kid who has no idea whatsoever what it means to be an adult. This is precisely why students should NOT be allowed to vote in the place where they attend school. Comments like these are what ruins things for the overtaxed homeowners.

    I have to explain to you becuase you have absolutely no clue. Homeowners have to pay a mortage, interest, property insurance, city taxes, county taxes, school taxes, water charges, sewer charges, etc. etc. And then the homeonwer has to pay to fix up the houses from the damage the kids do.

    If you think it’s so much better in Colonie for less money, go, go rent out there and see if you can have all these drunken brawls.

      I graduated HS local, moved out of my mother’s house sophomore year, and my mother made it clear as glass that I could live where ever I wished as long as it was not the SUNY ghetto….and this is why.
      I am totally aware of what goes into a house’s upkeep, which is why I’m such a happy tenant.
      And a lot of these kids don’t realize that a 4 bedroom in colonie is not $1200, it’s about $3000. And if they find a 4 bdr for that price, it sure as HELL is not in colonie. $500 is damned cheap as far as rent is concerned, and a lot of these kids are idiots.
      I’m very happy paying my $850 for my one bedroom and not having to deal with this….and also not having these idiots as neighbors.

    Most people are not giving the cops enough credit for letting this situation get out of hand, for almost all of these videos the cops were at most a hundred yards away watching. When a drunk college kid sees people destroying property and the cops are not doing anything about it what do you think is going to happen? NOTHING GOOD! And don’t give me that “they should be more responsible” crap of course they should be but lets be realistic, they’re college kids, most of which had drank themselves senseless. AND of course they have no thought of how much damage they cause to the community or to the schools reputation, most of them will never come back to Albany anyway after they graduate (or if they even make it to graduation) so what do they care? All I’m saying is the cops should have been more prepared and as long as they allow things to happen on this scale it will keep happening.

    I watched it all. I saw about 5 cars get damaged by probably 20 young men and that is deplorable. Other than that it is mostly harmless fun and games, some people ruining their own property. 95% of the city enjoyed the parade without incident. Don’t let the mistakes of 20 young men be an excuse to ruin an amazing event enjoyed by tens of thousands.

So lets not point the blame at at 17000 students that go here (and the others from st. rose), I saw kegs and eggs, and while some of it was horrible, and the people deserved to be punished, (car flippers, property destroyers, ect) Please take into consideration that that was a couple hundred people, and some of us just had a good time, and hung out on our OWN porches, and did nothing to harm anyone, or anything.     For all of you assholes who feel like stereotyping the downstaters, as you so call us, all of you upstaters can get the fuck off of your high horses; I’ll guarantee there were as many upstate hicks at this riot as there were downstate clowns. There’s nothing very gem like about albany to begin with; plenty of people who permanently live here don’t even give a shit about this place (not to say that that’s a condonable attitude), but chill out and stop acting like you’ve never done something shameful in your life. And by the way, last I checked, Hudson Ave is cleaned up pretty nicely. The people who really destroyed things should be punished, no question, but quit crucifying us for having a good time. My friend even spoke to one of the officers there and I overheard him say “I remember living here and partying on kegs and eggs. It’s a great time, but this is getting a little crazy, so we just need to ensure safety,” so stop blowing all of this up to be more than it is. And one last thing…for all of you telling us to “go party in our own home town”…we do…and we keep it clean… it’s the idiots in general (from up or downstate) that ruin it. And hypothetically, if we were to leave…ALBANY’S ECONOMY WOULD COLLAPSE. WE RUN THIS CITY AND KEEP ALL OF YOU BUMS, WHO RUMMAGE THROUGH OUR TRASH FOR BEER CANS AT NIGHT, ALIVE AND LIVING! We keep this city afloat, it’d sink if there were no SUNY ALBANY. toppling the property value? don’t make me laugh, these houses on hudson, hamilton, (the student ghetto) would probably fail most health or zoning inspections 9 times out of 10. (IT’S THE SLUMLORD’S AND PROPERTY OWNERS, WHO COULD GIVE A FUCK ABOUT PROPER HOUSING CARE, THAT YOU SHOULD BE GOING AFTER!) A normal working to middle class family wouldn’t even think of being caught dead in one of these rat holes you call houses, but we do and we will BECAUSE YOU NEED US!

You want to know why fountain day sucks now? Ask the morons in 2004 who got belligerent and out of control and ruined it for everyone for years to come.

    You’re all an embarrassment to the school, the alumni, your parents, and the human race. We all (well most of us) did stupid shit and went crazy while attending UA, but this is deplorable.

    But, I agree, commenting about the “downstaters”? Walk the college ghetto one day and tell me if a single one of those houses would pass building code or health inspections. Give me a break. Go to Penn State and see where Greek life lives, and then understand why kids at UA have no respect for where they live…its a freaken dump, run by slum lords. I lived on the corner of Hudson and Ontario 2 houses from the old pine hills market, and when my grandmother saw the house and street where I was living she started crying.

Not saying you were like that because I don’t know you, but I have been to those house parties and was disgusted by the stench of beer all over the sticky floors and the homemade fully stocked bars.         Here’s a concept…fix the places up and you can charge more rent, hold larger security deposits, and make these morons think twice about destroying the place. With a nicer place, you can be more selective with who you rent to as well. It is prime location for college students with the bars, late night food places, and the bus stop for the school right there, so there would be no lack of a market for people to rent to.

        I’m not at all defending the behavior of the rioters…that was disgusting. And people’s cars being destroyed has nothing to do with the dumpy houses. But, from experience, when I lived in one of those dumps, or partied in one of them, I treated it like what it was. The landlords clearly didnt give a Damn about the houses, so why would i? I lived in Loudon Arms apartments across i-90 the year before moving onto Hudson, and I kept that place immaculate because thats how it was when I moved in.

        Fast forward one year and a window from the house next to mine FELL OUT and smashed my rear windshield while I was parked in the driveway I had to pay extra rent for. An f*ing window fell off of the house! My back porch leaned at a 45 degree angle. Our heat went out in the dead of winter and my landlord made us freeze for 3 days in subzero temps bc she wouldn’t pay for a plumber. And we had one of the nicer houses on the block. I would venture a guess that 75% of the houses on Hudson wouldn’t even come close to passing an inspection.

        Create a cleaner, more positive environment, and you weed out a large portion of the morons that do things like this, because you won’t have to rent to them. Then when they come to the area to party and act like the idiots they are, the people who ARE living there police themselves.
